01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

At Sushi Washoku Hisashi, the pleasure of omakase lies in seeing what arrives next, as the meal moves from seasonal dishes to nigiri. The standard course includes an opening dish, sashimi, grilled, steamed and fried dishes, followed by 7 pieces of nigiri and a sushi roll, soup and dessert, for 11,000 yen. There is also a 13,200-yen course with an extra seasonal dish and 10 pieces of nigiri, as well as a 16,500-yen option with a more extensive selection of dishes and sushi. These give diners a choice when they want to take their time over the cooked dishes as well as the sushi.

Visitors have recalled seasonal ingredients such as young sweetfish, shinko (young gizzard shad), conger pike and shellfish. Some also mention the grilled tilefish with crisp scales and kuruma prawn as standouts. The appeal of the omakase here extends beyond nigiri to the menu as a whole.

Tiger pufferfish courses are available from 10 to 3. One option includes thinly sliced pufferfish, fried pufferfish, pufferfish hot pot and rice porridge; another combines the fish with nigiri. Choose between a meal centred on winter fish and one that includes sushi as well.

The nigiri is made with small portions of rice, which one diner found easy to enjoy alongside drinks; another named the conger eel nigiri as a favourite. Some visitors have also enjoyed white wine, making this a setting where you can choose a drink to go with the seasonal dishes and sushi. Course contents vary with the season and availability, so mention any disliked ingredients or allergies when booking.
